I had a very expensive bit of framing done by a London guy in 2004, it is perspex box unit with what i thought was a wood frame inside. The hanging string was screwed to the middle of the inner frame as you would expect. Over time those screw holes allowed moisture to enter the MDF and eventually the frame split allowing the weight to pull the sides of the MDF inwards, effectively slackening the string, but it wasnt noticeable when on the wall, it must have been very slow... all this meant the art was hanging by the friction between the screw threads and the MDF on the inside edge. Luckily I took the work down for some DIY in that area of the room and happened to notice it, very scary tho as I wouldnt have wanted it to fall.
So check out anything heavy you guys have that may have MDF frames, even if youre not sure its best to check. I really didnt know that this one was MDf, it was covered in tape and looked solid.
I'll do some pics at some point and add them here...

Thanks mate., I still cant quite believe this to be honest, what a crappy framing job... in fact the white round the MDF on the sides and top was actually duct tape! FFS! Leonard Villa in London... shame on you mate!
