Article in todays "Spectrum" (sydney herald).. good article about 11 people putting $2000 each year to buy art and the art rotates around everyone's house. great idea for investment (apart from vidoe art?? who buys that??). They must have contracts in place legally though and what type of insurance?? I mean for example what if one of the women blows thousands on the pokies and starts selling the pieces off to maintain her habit LOL!!!!! I think its a great idea as you meet up regular and everyone puts forward their choices, great discussion.. Okay off to city popping into Xenz with the misses this avo, hot outside may have one or 2 refreshing magners en route

I saw it too gadget and I think it has merit.
Away at the mo but will pdf and post the article.
I think it could be a good way to get to know some more artists and as the article mentions have a time share on some nice pieces.
I think Ive got to the point where I'd rather spend a couple of grand a year for a nice original rather than on a high edition piece that sits in a folio. Even if it was only a share in the painting.
The article and the Xenz exhibition got me thinking. There's no way I could shell out $5K on a piece, but perhaps $1K split by 5 people???
Agree on the contractual side and the rules and regs would have to be clearly spelt out............

Agree with you mate & yes it would be interesting to hear the negative side also, i bet there must have been infighting/arguing etc. amongst the members.
Also talking of exhibitions... any news on shows coming up in April in Sydney??

I reckon this has merit of done properly. Get a few decent CBD buildings involved and rent them the art thats not in use as well to help build the fund and get some bigger pieces. I quite fancy starting something doing this actually... Ive too much art and not enough wall space, happy to rent things to people that im not using depending on decent house insurance etc

Hi Jon.. I think individually it works, our receptionist in work was telling me her mum bought (years ago) a few Aboriginal pieces (she paid between 10-15k for) which she rents out through an agency. I will be a bit nosey and ask what she gets back per week or how it works (i dont think I would get much renting out my Dolk Circus LOL!! anyone want to buy it by the way??)..But as a collective as discussed it gets more complicated, insurance, contracts etc. Iwill let you know when i find out more..
